The Gilberto Freyre Christian School

The school is located on 246 Rua Sete in the city of Jaboatao dos Guararapes and the state of Pernambuco,
Brazil. The school was founded on March 12, 1987 by Amaro and Juvanete Pereira who run the school today.

Originally, the school was known as 'Educandario Voando com a Imaginacao'.  It was renamed 'Educandario
Gilberto Freyre' after the sociologist,
Gilberto Freyre, a Brazilian native who is noted for his sociological studies.
One of his primary focuses included the sociological effects on the people who lived in the Northeastern area
of Brazil where the school is located.  The school was officially recognized in 1989 by the Ministry of Education.

In 1987, the school opened with just five students and one teacher.  Today, the establishment counts on 12
teachers for its operation.  On average, 200 students attend each year.  The school hours are split into two
shifts, morning and afternoon. Grades range from Kindergarten through 8th grade.  Grades K-4 attend class in
the afternoon and grades 5-8 attend class in the morning.

In 1995, eight years after the founding of the Gilberto Freyre School, the owners committed their lives to Jesus
Christ.  Based on this important decision, a new philosophy to the education system at Gilberto Freyre began.
The education of Math, Writing, and Reading may be some primary areas of study but this decision made
Christianity the backbone of the Gilberto Freyre School.  The word of God is taught on a daily basis.

As the Gilberto Freyre Christian School pushes forward educating generations, we encourage our students to
make a difference both inside and outside of their community.  As a result of this life work, the educational
establishment of Gilberto Freyre advances their students to higher levels of education.  Students from Gilberto
Freyre are well received by private schools, military schools, federal technical schools and federal universities.
